Default Charmable Animals List

I was wondering if anyone has come across a big list of charmable animals that Rangers can have as pets and what zones those animals reside in... From what I have read in this board and others and have seen for myself the animals that you can charm are:

Wolf
Elder Wolf
Lynx
Playful Lynx
Hearty Lynx
Warthog
Moa Bird
Strider
Melandru's Stalker
Bear (See below on how to charm)
Fern Lizard/Dune Lizard

I also wonder if any of the charmable animals have special attacks.

Bear Charm - post searing bears are in Lonar's Pass but are surrounded by lvl 24 baddies but do not have skill break ability.

Presearing bears
Player 1(P1)
Ranger/Necromancer:
Faintheartedness
Charm Animal

Player 2(P2)
Warrior/Monk:
Frenzy Stance
Hammer Bash
Bane Signet
::Required equipment; low damage hammer::

P2: Charge adrenaline on Hammer Bash
Both: Find Black Bear
P1: Casts Faintheartedness on bear
P2: Draws the bear's attention
P1: Charm Animal, right before the bear starts an mauling attack
P2: Bane Signet, right before the bear lands the hit
P2: Hammer Bash, between the bears rising and using skillbreak

With luck, and timing, this is basiclly what is needed to charm a presearing Ascalon black bear

Have fun with your bears now!

Thanks,

EW

Pre-Searing Ascalon
- Stryder
- Bear
- Melandru Stalker
- Wolf
- Warthog

Post-Searing Ascalon
- Moa Bird
- Bear
- Melandru Stalker
- Snow Wolf
- Warthog
- Lynx
- Dune Lizard

and no... pets don't use special attacks by themselves... u must have skills on ur skill bar such as .. Feral Lunge or Brutal Strike.. and u use them on the enemy and ur pet will do the attack

What about the Prize-winning Pigs. They have green text, can I charm one and have that as my companion? Will it attach like the others? Do all of the animals do the same damage or is there an advantage of M. Stalker over Wolf, etc?

Any luck on charming a Moss Spider?

Also has anyone had much luck charming a pre-searing bear? I'm definately going to have to try this for myself.

I've already tried both the Moss Spider and the Prize-Winning Hog. The spider says "not an animal" and the prize-winning hog says something along the lines of "not charmable".

You can get a hog very easy pre-sear

go out the ascalon gate, turn slightly to the right, and run towards the bull.

you will see 1 or 2 possibilities

1- there will be 2 striders

2- there will be 1 strider, then between him and the lake will be a hog you can charm

on a tangent, I know beta data proved the bear was best pet stat wise, has this been compaired against dune lizards? I have numbers on the other pet data, just not on the lizards.

Dune Lizard = Offense - does more damage then the bear... but has lower defence

Bear = Defence - has more defence... but does less damage then the lizard

that's how i think it is.. but iono.. don't take my word for it....

i recall seeing a screenshot of a pet bear using the skill brutal mauling in pre-searing.. it should be in the same topic as the one where you found the info about how to charm a pre-searing bear

I would like to add another pet...

Elder Black Widow- from underworld after setting the reaper free at the monument near the tortured spirit village. It come as lv20

It had averge damage, averge attack speed, averge defense, not alot of hp (i think)... and have very very very low chance of poisioning (not completely sure on the poison part yet)

Did you remove Charm Animal from your skill bar? If you do that your pet goes away, but it comes back if you put it back in.

A low chance of poisoning is better then any of the other pets damage no matter how you look at it. At the moment, pets are just sad.

my pet has saved my sorry hide plenty of times. it took a hydra out last night lol.

I really would love to see some actual proper data on pets. Right now i stick to my Moa because few people have them and because i've had it from level 1 - 19 (pet level that is) so im kinda attached. Dune Lizards look great but i know most people will want them coz they look cool, and i'm also intrigued by these 'uber' pets from the 'uber' quests. *pokes vermillion to find more*

OK if you can get an Elder Black Widow as a pet then I am stoked! That will look awesome alongside my Necro/Ranger.
